    6.2: Pre-Release Version Now Available

We are proud to announce the beta version of WoltLab Suite 6.2. Building on the foundation of the previous version, WoltLab Suite 6.1, we have made improvements in many areas and integrated new features that complement the existing range of functions.

In the administration interface, the new grid views will quickly catch your eye, allowing you to conveniently sort and filter lists. The new image viewer improves working with image, which can even be optionally converted to WebP format with WoltLab Suite 6.2, including optional removal of EXIF data. As usual, you can find more information about this and the improvements to the editor in our blog on the new features of WoltLab Suite 6.2.

We are pleased to announce the release of WoltLab Suite 6.2, the latest iteration of our proven solution for websites and communities. Our product family, consisting of the powerful Core and five unique apps, has been expanded with the addition of “WoltLab Suite Database” in this version.

The biggest innovation is the new product “WoltLab Suite Database,” which allows you to create and maintain your own databases. Behind this is a flexible modular system that can be used to implement many different use cases, such as a knowledge database or a small marketplace. We have provided more information about this in our blog.

New Features in Woltlab Suite 6.2: Woltlab Suite Database – Maximum Freedom for Custom Content

With the release of WoltLab Suite 6.2, we are expanding our product portfolio with a completely new tool: WoltLab Suite Database – the most flexible way to manage and present structured content based on your own requirements.

The administration interface has undergone a major overhaul in many areas. In particular, lists now use a uniform layout with many sorting and filtering options almost throughout. This functionality will be extended to other areas of the software in various forms in future versions.

This blog article starts our series of articles in which we would like to present the most important new features and improvements in WoltLab Suite 6.2 in more detail over the next few weeks.

The revised blog, article system, and conversation list offer a preview of the new possibilities this brings:

New Features in Woltlab Suite 6.2: Modernization of the Blog, Article System and Conversation List

With the upcoming update, we are bringing a breath of fresh air to several key areas of WoltLab Suite. The upgrades range from a complete overhaul of the WoltLab Suite blog to new display formats for articles and conversations — always with the aim of pushing technology, design, and expandability to a new level.

A lot has also changed in the editor. The handling of quotes has been fundamentally revised and is now integrated directly into the editor. There is also an emoji picker, and file attachments can now be sorted. The latter can also be permanently converted to the efficient WebP format and optionally cleaned of EXIF data.

  • Forum software is updated to WoltLab Suite 6.2.1

Stability releases (third part of the version number, also known as “patch releases”) aim to solve existing problems in the current version. Like every stability release, they do not introduce new features.

    Security Notice

An internal code review has revealed a stored XSS vulnerability in the teaser text of articles (WoltLab Suite Core). This was caused by the incorrect handling of the teaser in the implementation of reactions.

All WoltLab Cloud customers have already been updated.

    Notable Changes

The list below differs a lot from our previous changelogs. First of all, we are trying a different approach that is much more verbose but provides a better insight into the actual changes. In earlier announcements we have been much more select in how much we cover but we have come to the conclusion that this larger list is more beneficial for developers.

Second, we came across a pattern of bugs that sparked a much greater internal investigation. As a result we performed a thorough review of the changes between 6.1 and 6.2, identifying a lot of minor bugs that slipped through earlier reviews. In addition this has revealed a larger portion of small bugs that exist in earlier versions too but follow the same patterns.

The update for 6.2 not only fixes a lot of previously hidden issues in that release but also includes a lot of fixes for bugs that have been in the code a long time but went unnoticed. It took us a lot of effort over the past two weeks to identify and resolve all these issues but we are super happy with the result.
